Dear Friends of the Scandinavian Chess Federations,
It seems to me a little bit strange that you distributed an Open Letter regarding time limit of the European Youth and Junior Championships without having asked us before.
You probably know the discussion about the time limit of the World Championship. The Europen Chess Union therefore had to wait for the final decision of the FIDE Presidential Board in Cannes. Now it is more or less clear that only the World Championship (Open section and women) including the Continental Championships respective the Zonal Tournaments as a qualification for the WCC have to be played according to the new time cotroll.
As a matter of fact we can state now that the European Youth Championship 2001 in Kallithea/Greece as well as the European Junior Championship 2001 in Patras/ Greece will be played with a rate of play as to the Regulations published in the ECU Manual 2000.
I hope all European federations will participate in these championships in Greece.
Kind Regards
European Chess Union
Horst Metzing
Secretary General
