nedenstående fax fra FIDE, i hvilken FIDE-præsidenten fastholder bestræbelserne for at
gennemføre knock-out-VM i Las Vegas og dementerer de mange forlydender om aflysning.

Our Attention has been drawn to various rumours and statements regarding
the cancellation of this year's World Championship in Las Vegas.
For the avoidance of doubt, the Presidential Board of FIDE at its meeting
in Lausanne, 21-22 December 1998, reaffirmed that the World Championship
will be held this year in Las Vegas. Every effort is being made to organise
this Championship in close co-operation with the US Chess Federation during
the envisaged period.
Just as it has been the case in the past, with many FIDE events, we have
lived up to our promise to organise these Championships whenever we commit
to do so and this year's World Championship as well as subsequent events
will be no exception.
The FIDE Secretariat will announce the details of the 1999 World
Championship within the next two weeks.
