VM klarede dopingtest

For første gang i skak-VM's historie blev der i Moskva 2001 gennemført dopingtest. Som det fremgår af efterfølgende rapport, var testen heldigvis negativ for samtlige forbudte stoffer.

MEDICAL COMMISSION'S REPORT

I arrived in Moscow on November 20, 2001 attending on invitation by the President to be the medical doctor for the World Chess Championship and to prepare all the necessary steps to do the doping control for the first time in the World Chess Championship.
November 21, 2001 I had a meeting with officials of the Ministry of sports of Russia in regards to the doping control. I would like to inform the President and this Board that the Russian officials have been very cooperative and helpful with this commission.

November 24, 2001 I inspected the facilities at the Kremlin where the tests were going to be carried out and they fulfilled the requirements.

November 26, 2001 The procedure of doping control was explained to the arbiters and players. 10% of the total players were going to be tested (20 in total).

November 30, 2001 8 players were control and they were selected at random.

December 6, 2001 12 players were tested to complete the grand total of 20. Among there 12 they were the 4 women semifinalists and 8 men quarter finalists.

I think doping control is a tremendous responsibility for our chess family, mainly for FIDE. I understand IOC is satisfied with our efforts in this regard.
I am happy to inform the President and this Board that 20 players tested for the first time in a World Chess Championship are negative to any doping prohibited substances, therefore it is so important to publish worldwide these results to let the sport world and IOC know that chess is a very drugs clean sport.
I do not have enough words to thank all the people that help out to accomplish this task.
My deep gratitude to the chief arbiter, deputy chief-arbiters, all the arbiters, players, staff members from our office, press center and mainly to the officials of the Russian sport ministry that cooperated with this Commission in this endeavour.
I would like to thank the President and this Board for all the support giving to this Commission to reach to a very happy ending.

Pedro Barrera M.D. Chairman of Medical Commission
