Ikaros Chess Festival 2000
will take place in Agios Kyrikos, Ikaria island, in Greece, from July 11th until July 22nd 2000.This is the 22nd consecutive Ikaros Chess Festival taking place in Ikaria. This year Ikaros Festival includes seven (7) tournaments. The first three tournaments offer accommodation privileges for the winners while the remaining four offer cash prizes of total value one million drachmas (1.000.000).

In more detail, the following tournaments will take place:
It will take place from July 11th until the July 14th. It will be a 5 round Swiss tournament with thinking time two hours for each player for the whole game.
Participation is open to women chess players regardless of rating, title or age.
The first 33% of the top players (classification depending on their score in this tournament) will be accommodated for the duration of the festival.
2. Junior’s Tournament of Agios Kyrikos.
It will take place from July 11th until the July 14th. It will be a 5 round Swiss tournament with thinking time two hours for each player for the whole game.
Participation is open to women chess players regardless of rating or title.
The first 33% of the top players (classification depending on their score in this tournament) will be accommodated for the duration of the festival.

Participation is open to any four-player teams. (No restrictions for the order of the players at the chessboards apply).
Accommodation will be offered to the players of the 20% of the top teams.
This tournament will take place on the 14th of July. It will be a seven (7) round Swiss tournament with thinking time limited to five (5) minutes for each player for the whole game.
Participation is again unrestricted and the prizes are 25,000 drs. for the first, 15,000 drs. for the second and 10,000 drs.for the third.
Aegean Open Championship will be held from the 15th until the 22nd of July. It will be a nine (9) rounds accelerated Swiss tournament. Thinking time will be two (2) hours for the first forty (40) moves and one (1) hour for the completion of the game for each player.
The schedule of the tournament is as follows:
1st Round: Saturday 15/7, 15.00 p.m.
2nd Round: Sunday 16/7, 10.00 a.m.
3rd Round: Sunday 16/7, 18.00 p.m.
4th Round: Monday 17/7, 17.00 p.m.
5th Round: Tuesday 18/7, 17.00 p.m.
6th Round: Wednesday 19/7, 17.00 p.m.
7th Round: Thursday 20/7, 17.00 p.m.
8th Round: Friday 21/7, 15.00 p.m.
9th Round: Saturday 22/7, 10.00 a.m.
The prizes will be 450,000drs in total. The first one will receive 120,000 drs the second 80,000 drs, the third 60,000 drs, the fourth 40,000 drs, the fifth 30,000 drs, the sixth 20,000 drs and the seventh 10,000 drs. The first female player will receive 30,000drs, the second 20,000 drs and the third 10,000 drs. The first veteran will receive 20,000drs and the second 10,000drs. The female and veteran players that will assume one of the top seven positions receive both prizes, one from the general classification and one from the specific. Cup prizes and medals will be awarded to all of the winners in the tournament.
Aegean Grand Prix (!!!)
The first four from the general, accumulative, score board in the Aegean Championship (Ikaria), the Mitilini International Chess Tournament, (July 24th – July 31st ,Lesvos island) and Chania "Battle of Crete" International Tournament (August 2nd – August 9th , Chania,Crete) will also share a cash prize of 450,000drs. Details concerning how the prize will be shared among the winners will be announced later.
Winner of the Aegean Championship (!!!)
The first Greek chess player – member of a chess society in the Aegean region- will be declared the Aegean Champion.
This tournament will take place on the 22nd and 23rd of July and is carried out without the use of chessboards. Thinking time is limited to twenty-five minutes per player for the duration of the game.
Participation will be defined by invitation and the lay-out of the prizes will be 25,000 drs for first place, 15,000 drs for second and 10,000 drs for third.
Parallel Exhibitions
During the period between 11 and 23 of July classes and tournaments for young chess players are offered as well as outdoor exhibitions of "simoultane" and "handicap". Furthermore many other athletic and cultural events will also take place.

(All expenditure covers all of the tournaments and the parallel events of "Ikaros Chess Festival 2000")
ENTRY FEES:
The entry fees are 10,000 drs for the Aegean Championship and 2,000 drs for each of the subsequent tournaments (these fees do not apply to holders of international titles, chess-players that have already qualified, members of the Ikaria Chess Club and Ikarian chess-players regardless of the club they belong to).
CONTESTANTS EXPENDITURES:
For a limited number of contestants-the ones that have entered their participation for the event by the 30th of June the latest- a special discount price applies which includes ferry tickets, accommodation costs and entry fees. This special price is set at 25,000 drs per person and applies from the 10th until the 13th of July. From the 14th and until the 22nd the price will be 60,000 and the costs for the entire event (10 – 22 July) is set at 80,000 drs.
For families, four-member (at least) teams, players under the age of 20 and natives the costs of participation will be subsidized by the organizers up to 20% of the whole price. So the respective price-list will be 20,000, 48,000 and 64,000.
For the chess-players that have qualified, the IMs and GMs, travel (tourist class on commercial ferries) and accommodation (two-bed en-suite room) costs will be covered by the committee. For GMs with an ELO up to 2300 the organizers will contribute to board and basic day to day costs. GMs and WGMs will receive 3,000 drs for every ten points above 2300 ELO.
SCORE TIES:
The criteria for a ruling when faced with a situation of a score tie in any of the tournaments (unless there is a different clause stated in a complementary edition of the set rules) will be: 1) Buholtz 2) Median Buholtz 3) Victories 4) Sum of progressive standings. The tie-break conditions apply in all events and tournaments. However, the cash-prizes are divided equally between the players that hold the same final score.
